These resources help researchers by augmenting their teams with the IT skillsets needed to ensure their projects are successful, in addition to maintaining compliance with Johns Hopkins University and Medicine security policies and federal regulations.
JH IT’s data specialists help researchers understand data availability, inform them of the secure and compliant platforms that can be leveraged for data analysis, and coordinate with key partners like Health IT and the Core for Clinical Research Data Acquisition (CCDA) to support data extraction to RIT supported infrastructure for data analysis.

Research Data Curation
| The Research Data Curation service assists researchers with research data requirements and handling of data in accordance with best practices and compliance requirements. This service includes: • Curation of data for research studies • Robust documentation and version history for datasets and associated code • Data capture/data extraction • Data cleaning, validation and de-identification • Preparation of research-ready datasets to support downstream analysis and modeling |

Research Data Custodianship
| The Research Data Custodianship service assists researchers with handling contracts, supporting additional fees for extramural and scholarly projects, and the appropriate management of access to data. This service includes: • Acquiring, hosting and managing commercial/external datasets • Shepherding license renewals and data updates • Onboarding and off boarding users • Acquisition and renewal in coordination with Procurement and Research Administration |

Research Enclave for Analyzing Clinical Health data (REACH)
| The inHealth Research Enclave for Analyzing Clinical Health data (REACH) provides streamlined access to high-quality, de-identified clinical health data. REACH is nested within Johns Hopkins’ Research IT-managed infrastructure environment, which is secure, HIPAA-compliant, and follows NIST SP 800-171 standards with strict egress controls, logging, and policy enforcement.
